Newsday Story

To my blogger family

- our story is in our newspaper starting today. Got to: www.Newsday.com and click on "Alzheimer's on LI". They have pictures of each family they have been following. For ours, they have our story, an AMAZING video and still pictures. They also have excerpts from Mike's Journal, letters he had written to me and Courtney's essay for the AFA Teens scholarship. They also include a daily timeline and a timeline addressing Mike's illness.

It's been a long 2 years, but I fell the outcome is amazing. I hope it raises the awareness this disease REALLY needs.

Hi Karen,
You are a pillar of strength! What a heart wrenching reality. I pray for you, Mike, Courtney and Brandon. I am unable to help financially but am willing to help in other ways if it would make things easier for you and your family. How about dinner once a week, help around the house (laundry, cleaning, food shopping) or even help with Mike if you need a second set of hands. I am a Registered Nurse so I am familar with patient care. If you ever have another event ie. your sons honor society induction and need a second set of hands I am willing to pitch in. I sent Denise Bonilla my contact information. May God Bless.

Hi Karen - I have read your story in Newsday and I just want to thank you and your family for opening up about how this disease impacts everyone in the family. Our family was also impacted by Alzheimer's when my mother-in-law was diagnosed shortly after my husband and I were married. She lived many years with it and her deterioration was slow and painful. You and your family are in my thoughts. If you need a shoulder to cry on you can reach me at wachit@AOL.com. Blessings to you and your family.

Dear Mrs. Henley,
I read your story today and had to stop several times to fight back the tears. As many have already expressed you really are a true pilar of strength and have shown on a daily basis what TRUE love is. I know it may not always be easy but I pray that God helps you and your family. I never knew this disease could affect someone in their thirties or that there was such a thing as early onset AD.I will keep reading and praying for you and your family. I urge you to stay strong and remain the hero that you are.
